THE SOLOY HONEYWELL ADVANTAGE
The LTS101-700D-2 engine change for the AS350B2 will be one of the least painful decisions to make for any owner, DOM or Operations Manager.
While the Arriel is a powerful and reliable performer, the ever-increasing maintenance, parts and overhaul charges are increasing the operating cost and reducing availability and overall profitability of the helicopter fleet.
The new Honeywell LTS101-700D-2 is a mature, reliable and powerful alternate for the Turbomeca Arriel 1D1. It is already making a huge difference for those who took advantage of the option when Soloy obtained the AS350B2 STC.
When operated in accordance with the Honeywell CSL 032R-3, the engine is maintained using an on-condition servicing schedule. Current cost of operation using a high count of three cycles per hour is:
Life limited parts $34.00/hr
Accessory overhaul $13.25/hr
1800 hour parts and labor conducted by Honeywell approved facility $25.00/hr
Scheduled /unscheduled labor and parts. $10.00/hr
Total maintenance and overhaul operating cost $82.25/hr
As a comparison the Honeywell HSP (Helicopter Support Plan)
overs most all of the above and costs: $98.50/hr.
Even though we have only been certified for 20 months, the –700D-2 powered fleet has exceeded 20,000 flight hours and the operational costs noted above are being achieved.
Factory support, parts and rental engines are readily available and there is no reason that a Honeywell powered AS350 will ever be grounded due to a long-term powerplant problem.
Besides the benefits discussed above, the 700D-2 provides identical performance with a 5% reduction in fuel consumption. Depending on your location and actual cost of fuel, this factor alone can save you or your customers a lot of money. Some Canadian operators in the far North are running over 100 hours per month (one did 1000hrs between April and September!) and due to fuel costs plus the added cost for transporting the fuel, very significant savings are being achieved.

The Soloy AS350 “SD2” kit is based on the original AS350B2 model helicopter. This conversion utilizes all original Eurocopter AS350B2 drive train components and is FAA certified to be installed under the under Soloy STC’s SR01647SE into AS350B2 model helicopters. The Soloy conversion kit includes installation documentation, all required Eurocopter parts, Soloy exclusive parts and Honeywell LTS101-700D-2 engine in “Silver” or “Gold” configuration. |
